Kodjo died from a single knife wound to the heart on Wednesday 14th March 2007.
Kodjo's girlfriend Cookie said they were walking along Hammersmith Grove, Hammersmith, when a boy approached and picked a fight.
She told the London Evening Standard: "Kodjo is not afraid of anyone so he said, 'Come on, let's do this.' They went round a corner to be somewhere a bit quieter but we were ambushed.
"Suddenly all these boys came from round the corner. They all had weapons - knives, hammers and baseball bats. It was set up."
Witnesses described seeing a gang of boys and several girls chanting "kill him, kill him" and throwing sticks at Kodjo, before he was attacked.
They are believed to have been trying to take his Staffordshire bull terrier - a much prized gang accessory - which he would not hand over.
Cookie said she had cradled the boy as he lay dying, saying to him: "Please, please don't die because I need you."
Kodjo's friend Natalie Hunter told Sky News: "I heard he got stabbed up in his heart, tortured and he begged for his life and people (his attackers) would not stop and no one was there to help him.
"I just don't understand why kids are killing kids."
Kodjo, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, had been a student at St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College in west London.
Headteacher Paul O'Shea described him as "friendly, gentle and peaceful" with an "excellent record".

Terrible absolutely terrible, when will it end?
I'm tired of visiting sites, forums and blogs airing my views on this gang culture 'getting away with murder'. The only protection out there is for thugs. It is down to us to do something in numbers demand something is done to put a stop to our babies being harmed or killed. Our children should beable to walk down the streets with their mobile phones, ipods and pets.
There needs to be tough deterrents in line so thugs wouldn't even contemplate harming another.
My heart goes out to the family rest in RIP Kodjo.
Another Senseless Killing
When is this going to stop? Why are you young kids killing each other?
Somebody knows who done this and you need to come forward. Think of the pain this young mans family and friends are going through. Imagine if it was your family & friends? You would want someone to speak out wouldn't you?
Just call crimestoppers or the police and tell them what you know, you don't even have to leave your name so nobody needs ever know it was you.
One day you might become a parent so speak out now.

Another young life
Another young life taken - for what - so some jumped up little boy can get some street cred!!! Where is it going to end? When are you youths that are reading these tributes gonna realise that you are creating an environment that will be a hundred times worse when you kids are walking the street - or does this take too much brain power to realise???
I cannot imagine what the parents are going through, it doesn't bear thinking about, but all of you that were there you have his blood on your hands. Right now you might still be smirking, but that won't last long. Eventually the guilt will creep up on you like a disease that you can't rid yourself of and it will eat away at you. You are what 14-16, that is gonna be a lot of years to have to carry that burden of shame around with you.
The youths today disgust me, they belong in the gutter with the rest of the nastiness that resides there!
Kodjo, I am so sorry that you had to endure this and all I can hope is that you have found yourself to that better place where these animals will never be permitted to enter. RIP young man xxx
